Live Oak Bank supports Jimmy Neil’s Efforts to Raise Money for Cancer

Aug 16, 2011

August 16, 2011 – Wilmington, NC – The idea behind Pelotonia started in 2008 when two friends, one being a cancer survivor, rode 163 miles across Cape Cope in support of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. The strenuous but rewarding ride created a strong bond between the two men and inspired Tom Lennox to come up with the business model for Pelotonia. The concept is that corporate partners cover the expenses of the actual race to ensure that every penny of every dollar raised by the cyclists goes directly to fund cancer research. Since government funding has not increased in years despite the ever-rising number of people being diagnosed, Lennox made it his mission to boost the funds for cancer research. He couldn’t ignore the statistics that 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime.

From August 19th – 21st, Jimmy Neil will participate in the grassroots bike tour. “The 2-day, 180 mile ride will be a challenging one, but it is nothing compared to what my loved ones have endured with their fights against cancer,” said Neil. “Being an avid biker, raising money by pedaling from Columbus to Athens seemed like the best way for me to make a difference. I greatly appreciate Live Oak Bank’s contribution, which helped me towards my fundraising goal.”

“We are happy to support Jimmy’s efforts to back such a great cause and wish him the best during his trek through the hills of central Ohio,” commented Ed Webman, Sr. Loan Officer at Live Oak Bank.

In 2007, Live Oak Bank started to provide veterinary business loans to small, independent businesspeople looking to expand, remodel, refinance and/or acquire an existing practice. From the beginning, we took a personal approach and saw our clients not as numbers, but as real people facing real-life opportunities and challenges. We offer big bank expertise but provide personal attention to all of our customers to ensure their long-term success. It worked – for us as well as our clients – and we expanded our veterinary funding programs to serve the needs of private pharmacies and dental offices across the country.
