James S. Mahan III - CEO and Chairman of the Board
James (Chip) S. Mahan III is the Founder, CEO and Chairman of the Board for Live Oak Bank. Prior to Live Oak Bank, Mahan was the CEO and Chairman of the Board for S1 Corporation and Founder of Security for First Network Bank, the world's first Internet bank. Under his leadership, S1 Corporation grew to become a $234 million software and services provider in only six years, averaging more than 200 percent growth year over year. At its peak, S1 had a Market Capitalization of $7.8BB. During his term as CEO, Mahan was ranked as one of the 10 Most Influential Personalities in Financial Services by FutureBanker magazine.

Prior to founding Security First Network Bank and S1 Corporation, Mahan launched Cardinal Bancshares, where he served as Chairman and CEO. Mahan built Cardinal into an $800 million institution and took the company public in 1992. Before launching Cardinal, Mahan spent several years with Citizens Union National Bank & Trust Co., serving as President, Chief Operating Officer and Vice Chairman. In 1984, he moved into the roles of Chairman and CEO. In 1986, Mahan formed an investment group that purchased Citizens Union and sold it to Bank One Corp. of Columbus, OH. In 1986 he also led a leveraged buyout of American Engineering Company, a Midwest provider of civil engineering services to the states of Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee and West Virginia. The company's revenues have increased 12 fold since inception.

Mahan began his career in 1973 at Wachovia Bank & Trust Co. in Winston-Salem, NC, after graduating with a Bachelor's degree in finance from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VA.

David G. Lucht - Chief Risk Officer
David Lucht is the Chief Risk Officer for Live Oak Bank. Before joining Live Oak Bank in May of 2007, Lucht held numerous high-ranking positions in many different successful banking institutions. He was the Chief Credit Officer, Executive Vice President and Director for First Merit Bank out of Akron Ohio where he was responsible for leading the turnaround in credit culture and performance of the $10.5 billion bank. He also served as the Senior Credit Officer and Executive Vice President for National City Bank out of Cleveland, OH, was the Senior Credit Officer and EVP for National City Bank, and the list goes on. Lucht graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Miami and received his MBA from Kent State University.

Lucht is married with three children and enjoys reading, golfing and skiing.

Lee Williams
Lee Williams joined Live Oak Bank in 2007 and is primarily responsible for examining, evaluating and recommending the approval of commercial customer applications for extensions of credit. Prior to Live Oak Bank, Williams worked for Vine Street Financial, a division of BB&T, within the SBA Lending Division, and was with Wachovia Bank and Trust for close to 20 years. Williams graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.

Beyond his duties as a Servicing Officer, Williams is considered something of a renaissance man because of his many talents – he owns and operates several Hampton Inns and is well-versed in the ways of farming.

Brett Caines - Chief Financial Officer
Brett Caines is the Chief Financial Officer for Live Oak Bank. Prior to Live Oak Bank, Caines worked as a Production Engineer for INVISTA and as a Process Engineer for Shell Chemical Company. Caines received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from North Carolina State University and received his MBA from the University of North Carolina, Wilmington.

When he isn't working, Brett enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons.

Melissa Davis - Loan Operations Specialist
Melissa Davis is a Loan Operations Specialist for Live Oak Bank and is responsible for managing all deposit and electronic banking operations. Davis also assists in all balancing and accounting functions, as well as backup to loan operations. Before joining Live Oak Bank, Davis was a Teller Supervisor for BB&T. And prior to that, she was an Assistant Branch Manager for SunTrust Bank.

When she isn't working, Davis can be found lounging on the beach with her son and two dogs.

Debbie Warwick – Loan Operations Manager
As a Loan Operations Manager for Live Oak Bank, Warwick is responsible for the proper booking and accuracy of loans, making sure documents are in order, and providing excellent customer service. Prior to Live Oak Bank, Warwick was the Vice President and Senior Loan Officer for Woodlands Bank/Vista Mortgage. Before Woodlands Bank she served as Vice President and Mortgage Banker for First Citizens Bank where she originated and closed mortgage loans and was a top producer from 1989 to 2006. Warwick attended Montreat Anderson College.

When she isn't busy fulfilling her role as a Loan Operations Manager, Debra enjoys biking, spending time with her family, planting flowers, and time at the beach.

James S. Mahan IV - VP, Director of Marketing
James (Jim) S. Mahan IV is the Vice President and Director of Marketing for Live Oak Bank and is responsible for the planning and directing of Live Oak Bank's marketing efforts, objectives, products, services and image. Mahan spends much of his time educating young veterinarians about financing and how best to maintain and grow their clinics. Before joining Live Oak Bank, Mahan had a very active academic career serving as an Academic Counselor for the University of Kentucky's Athletic Department. He was also a high school teacher, coach and even principal. Mahan graduated with a Bachelor's degree in American and European History from Washington & Lee University and received his Master's degree in Secondary School Administration from North Carolina State University.

When he isn't busy with work, Mahan is a huge fan of basketball – playing, watching, coaching – it doesn't matter, just so long as he's involved. He's also a huge movie buff, enjoys literature, theatre, the arts and travel. It's also been rumored that he occasionally enjoys relaxing with an Xbox 360, but this has yet to be confirmed.

Jason Canup - IT Administrator
As IT Administrator for Live Oak Bank, Jason Canup is responsible for maintaining the wide area network and ensuring all network problems are resolved in a timely manner. Before joining Live Oak Bank, Canup owned and ran OMNI Computer Solutions, Inc. And prior to that, he was the VP/Lead Technician for RAM Computer Solutions, Inc. Canup majored in Psychology while attending the University of North Carolina, Wilmington.

When he isn't busy solving network related issues, Canup enjoys basketball, movies and music – whether he's listening or playing, it's all good.

Brian C. Faulk - Sr. Loan Officer / Owner
Brian Faulk, a Senior Loan Officer, joined Live Oak Bank in May of 2007 and is responsible for examining, evaluating and recommending the approval of commercial customer applications for extensions of credit. Before coming to Live Oak Bank, Faulk was the Vice President for Vine Street Financial, a division of BB&T, where he specialized in small business administration financing, loan structuring and many other vital duties. Prior to Vine Street, Faulk served as the Commercial Lending Officer for Anderson-Thomas Financial Group, Ltd., and was the Assistant Vice President for United States Arbitrage Finance. Faulk attended both Georgia State University and the University of Wisconsin.

Outside of Live Oak Bank, Faulk enjoys seeing the world from behind a pair of handlebars as he cycles his way across the countryside.

Ford Williams - Relationship Manager
Ford Williams serves Live Oak Bank as a Relationship Manager and is responsible for assisting other loan officers in examining, evaluating and closing commercial extensions of credit. Prior to joining Live Oak Bank, Williams worked for Vine Street Financial, a division of BB&T, and was a Regional Sales Associate for Employer Payment Solutions, where his responsibilities included the discovery of clients looking to outsource their companies' payroll. Williams also does some moonlighting in the springtime as a manger for Lewis Nursery and Farms – a seasonal farmer's market in Wilmington, NC that's famous for its "pick-your-own strawberries" and homemade
ice cream.

Williams attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and still enjoys watching his Tar Heels when he gets the chance. He also enjoys surfing and sailing, something he learned to do as a kid while growing up at the beach.

Chad Reed - Loan Officer / Owner
Chad Reed is a Loan Officer for Live Oak Bank and is responsible for assisting loan officers with examining, evaluating and closing commercial extensions of credit. Prior to Live Oak Bank, Reed worked as a Wholesale Broker Analyst for National City Mortgage and was a Unit Leader within the Loan Servicing department for Bank One out of Lexington, KY. Reed graduated from Wofford College with a Bachelor's
in Economics.

Outside of Live Oak Bank, Reed enjoys the simple things in life, like dinner and movie with his wife, running, following the Kentucky Wildcats, playing basketball, golf and traveling when he can.

Travis York - Sr. Loan Officer / Owner
Travis York is a Senior Loan Officer for Live Oak Bank and is responsible for examining, evaluating and recommending the approval of commercial customer applications for extensions of credit. Before Live Oak Bank, York served as Loan Officer for Vine Street Financial, a division of BB&T, and as a Financial Advisor at American Express. York also has a wealth of experience working with veterinarians because he worked as a kennel assistant, receptionist and technician while working for his father – who himself is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. York graduated from the University of Iowa with his Bachelor's in Business Administration and is a member of the Finance Committee of the Association of Veterinary Practice
Management Consultants.

When he isn't busy performing the duties of a Loan Officer, York enjoys both men's and coed recreational softball and flag football. A seasoned traveler, York also enjoys spending time seeing the sites within the US and abroad.

Vince Dailey - Sr. Loan Officer / Owner
Vince Dailey is a Senior Loan Officer for Live Oak Bank and is responsible for examining, evaluating and recommending the approval of commercial customer applications for extensions of credit. Before joining Live Oak Bank, Dailey was the President for Vine Street Financial, a division of BB&T, and worked as an SBA Loan Packager for Thomas Financial Group as well. Dailey graduated with a Bachelor's in Business Administration and Finance from Marquette University.

Dailey's hobbies and interests include hockey, reading and – we're not making this up – lending money to veterinarians. How's that for dedicated?

Robin Harper - Loan Closing Specialist
Robin Harper serves as a Loan Closing Specialist for Live Oak Bank which means she is responsible for ensuring all loans are booked in a timely manner. Harper is also responsible for reviewing all loans for documentation deficiencies. Before coming to Live Oak Bank, Harper was an AVP/Construction Loan Manager for Vine Street Financial; a division of BB&T. Harper also served as a Residential Loan Processor for Credit Depot Corporation and was in Residential Construction while working for Gwinnett Federal Savings & Loan Bank. Harper graduated from DeKalb College
in 1991.

Outside of work, Harper enjoys riding motorcycles, watching movies – as long as they're not gory, gardening, restoring antique furniture, and watching football
and baseball.

Caroline Esmond - Chief Credit Officer
As the Chief Credit Officer with Live Oak Bank, Caroline is responsible for Credit Administration which includes the approval of commercial loan applications for extension of credit and oversight of asset quality of the loan portfolio. Other duties include updating and maintaining credit policies. Before joining Live Oak Bank, Caroline worked at BB&T in Winston-Salem for over ten years where she held the position of Senior Vice President and was a Credit Risk Administrator who oversaw risk management for Specialized Lending Groups and counterparty credit risk for the bank. Caroline also managed the Commercial Credit Training Group at BB&T University. Caroline began her banking career with Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh. During her 16 year tenure, Caroline served in numerous capacities including Commercial Business Center Manager and Regional Commercial Operations Manager. Caroline graduated from North Carolina State University with a dual degree in both Business Management
and Economics.

Outside of work Caroline is a seriously devoted fan of animals and is very active with the Forsyth Humane Society and helps out with Hospice as well. When she isn't helping her four-legged friends she enjoys theater, music, travel and golf.

Annemarie E. Murphy – Sr. Loan Officer / Owner
As a Senior Loan Officer, Annemarie Murphy examines, evaluates and recommends the approval of commercial customer applications for extensions of credit. Over the course of her career, Murphy has specialized in dental and veterinary financing with a concentration in expansion and construction loans – successfully closing an impressive $225 million plus in healthcare loans in that time. Before joining Live Oak Bank, Murphy most recently served as the Vice President of the Healthcare Finance Division for United Western Bank. She also served as the Regional Account Manager for CIT, was the Assistant Vice President for Bank of America, and worked for The Money Store Commercial Lending Division. Murphy studied Advanced Credit & Financial Analysis while attending Dun & Bradstreet Business Education classes, graduated with honors from Fairleigh Dickinson University and was awarded her BA in Political Science from Allegheny College. In 2005 Murphy was named the SBA Financial Services Champion of the Year.

Murphy is happily married with two teenage daughters and although they appear perfectly normal – travelling, playing golf, etc. – they are actually die-hard, season-ticket-holding, Denver Broncos fans.

Mike Stanton – Sr. Loan Officer
As a Senior Loan Officer, Mike Stanton originates new loans, packages SBA loans and evaluates new loan applications and lines of credit. Before joining Live Oak Bank, Stanton worked for Vine Street Financial, a division of BB&T, as an SBA Credit Analyst and Lender. His duties included the initial underwriting of new loan proposals, assisting lenders with different SBA programs, reviewing corporate tax returns, and other responsibilities. Stanton majored in Finance and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Georgia in 2005.

Stanton moved to Atlanta from New Jersey when he was 14 years old. The area must have made a good impression on him because he married his high school sweetheart and even named their dog Georgia. When he isn't hard at work, Stanton enjoys fishing, hiking, mountain biking, golf, movies and spending time with his wife and their dog.

Lisa Hassen – Administrative Assistant
Behind every great Sr. Loan Officer, there is usually a great Administrative Assistant and at Live Oak Bank, that person's name is Lisa Hassen. Hassen has been the Administrative Assistant for Sr. Loan Officer Annemarie Murphy for the past 2.5 years. Her responsibilities include helping in all areas of the loan process as well as the day-to-day operations that help keep the office running smoothly. Always a team player, Hassen even vacuums on special occasions but draws the line at doing windows!

Prior to working at Live Oak Bank, Hassen was with United Western Bank (where she met Annemarie) and was a processor/closer for American National Title before then. Hassen graduated from Front Range Community College with an Associated Degree in Applied Arts.

When not at work Hassen enjoys spending time with her husband, their two dogs and a cat, playing in the dirt of her garden and enjoying the mountains of Colorado from her home in Colorado Springs.

Ed Webman – Sr. Loan Officer
A third-generation pharmacist, Ed brings broad experience and expertise to his position as a loan officer responsible for examining, evaluating and closing extensions of credit to pharmacies. He got his first taste of pharmacy life working in his family's business as a teenager and started his professional career as a pharmacist for a chain and later for an independent. Ed then joined QS/1 Data Systems where he was responsible for pharmacy computer system sales and installations. After nearly a decade, Ed left QS/1 to start his own pharmacy business, which he eventually sold to Fedco, a regional chain. He joined the company as senior vice president and director of pharmacy and led the acquisition and divesture program. After Fedco was sold in 2001, Ed started Central Florida Pharmacy/Advanced Medical, a specialty pharmacy and DME supplier. He grew the businesses from the ground up and sold them in 2007.

Ed graduated from the University of Florida in Gainesville with a BS in Pharmacy. Although he and his wife have two teenage sons, he manages to find time to volunteer for youth and community organizations and has served as director of a hospice and a senior center. He is a longtime member of the Florida Pharmacy Association and the National Community Pharmacy Association.

Keith Merklin – Senior Loan Officer
Keith Merklin joined Live Oak Bank in early 2010, bringing with him over 14 years of experience as a commercial lending officer. He has spent the majority of his career working with small healthcare practices. Prior to Live Oak Bank, Keith worked for Matsco, a division of Wells Fargo, a leading specialty healthcare lender. During his 10 years with Matsco/Wells Fargo, Keith originated more than $300,000,000 in loans for veterinarians and dentists who were acquiring a practice or property, consolidating debt or expanding their businesses. Keith was a top producer during his entire tenure with Matsco/Wells Fargo, a testament to his understanding of healthcare practice challenges as well as his dedication to helping small practitioners acquire financing to achieve their professional goals.

Keith never slows down, even when he's not working. He enjoys time with his family, playing golf, running and cheering on his local professional sports teams. He is a graduate of the University of San Francisco.

Kay Anderson – Sr. Loan Officer
As a Senior Loan Officer for Live Oak Bank, Kay is able to combine her 18 years of SBA Lending experience with her CPA skills and real estate knowledge to work with Live Oak Bank's customers who may have been impacted by the recent economic events that have affected small business owners throughout the U.S. She specializes in helping to implement ideas for solutions to business and financing problems that benefit both the Bank and our customers.

Kay originally started working in SBA lending with other members of the Live Oak Bank team at VST Financial Services and is pleased to have reconnected with everyone again. Formerly, Kay managed the franchise lending section of TransAmerica Small Business Capital, was with Temecula Valley Bank and Mountain 1st Bank. She gained her CPA experience in the taxation department at Ernst & Young and also taught taxation classes at Western Michigan University.

Lauren Sutton – SBA Compliance Specialist
Lauren Sutton is a SBA Compliance Specialist for Live Oak Bank and is responsible for reviewing loan files post closing. Before joining Live Oak Bank, Sutton was an Operations Specialist with Crescent State Bank.

When she isn't working and enjoying pummeling Live Oak employees during lunch work outs, Sutton can be found at the ball field watching her son play baseball, her daughter play softball and her husband coach. She also loves playing and cuddling with her rescue dog, Lucee.

Adair Graham - Credit Officer/Analyst
As a Credit Officer/Analyst with Live Oak Bank, Adair Graham's responsibilities include the review and approval of commercial loan applications, tracking and analyzing the asset quality/statistics of LOB's loan portfolio and compiling numerous month end/quarterly reports for review by upper management. After graduating from Virginia Military Institute in 1999 with a degree in Economics & Business, he worked at Scott and Stringfellow as a stock broker for four years.

Before joining Live Oak Bank, Adair was an associate with Cameron Management, a family owned company holding a broad range of investments with an emphasis on real estate. Adair is a director and founder of Coastal Carolina Bancshares, Inc. and Coastal Carolina National Bank located in Myrtle Beach, SC. When he isn't working, he enjoys fishing, hunting, and spending time with his wife, two sons and three dogs.

Angie Taylor – Loan Operations Specialist
As a Loan Operations Specialist, Angie is responsible for handling the collateral insurance matters for Live Oak Bank, scanning loan and construction files, and providing great service to borrowers, lenders as well as insurance agents. Prior to coming to Live Oak Bank, Angie worked in loan administration at Cape Fear Bank, and was a real estate & corporate paralegal for 16 years. Angie received a BBA from Campbell University and an MBA from UNC-Wilmington.

Outside of work, Angie enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, watching movies, listening to music and lounging by the pool. Born and raised in the Wilmington area, Angie is an avid UNC Tarheels fan. She loves animals, and is the "mother" of two black cats, Blake & Mama Kitty.

Kirstin Mathews – Accounting/Operations Specialist
Kirstin Mathews serves as the Accounting/Operations Specialist for Live Oak Bank and is responsible for accounts payable, reconciling internal bank accounts, and regulatory reporting for the Holding Company. Before joining Live Oak Bank, Kirstin served as the Assistant Treasurer and Financial Reporting Manager for Cape Fear Bank.

Kirstin graduated with her BSBA in Management and Organizational Development from Mount Olive College and received her MBA with an emphasis in Accounting from the University of Phoenix.

When Kirstin isn't working, she enjoys spending time with her husband at the beach, playing volleyball, and traveling. She also loves to watch sports and is an avid fan of the University of Florida Gators.

Nancy McCann – SBA Compliance Team Leader
Nancy McCann is the SBA Compliance Team Leader for the bank, and is responsible for review of all loan documentation, including SBA application and closing information for conformity with SBA regulations. Before coming to Live Oak Bank, McCann was a Sr. SBA Loan Processor with Community South Bank and Temecula Valley Bank. She also served as AVP/ Sr. Loan Processor for RBC Bank in their Government Lending Division. McCann received her Bachelor of Arts and Paralegal Certificate from Meredith College.

Outside of work, Nancy loves helping her husband Jack run his restaurant in downtown Wilmington. She is an avid Steelers fan and owns more than one Terrible Towel. Nancy can serve drinks, talk football, and close a loan, all in one day. Impressive.

Sarah Powell – Loan Closing Specialist
Behind every great Loan Officer, there is usually a great Loan Closer and for Brian Faulk, that is Sarah Powell. Powell is responsible for all aspects of loan closing, from SBA approval to closing. She works with the loan officer, borrower, compliance and attorneys to ensure a smooth loan closing. Before coming to Live Oak Bank, Powell was a Business Banking Assistant with Cape Fear Bank. She also served as a Lien Clerk and Sr. Teller for BB&T. Powell received her Bachelor of Science from University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Outside of work, Sarah enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, reading and trips to the area beaches. (Also a huge LOST fan!! Boo-hoo, the series is almost over!)

Megan Shannahan – Loan Operations Specialist
As the Loan Operations Specialist, Megan Shannahan is responsible for all construction and future advance loan disbursements and serves as the main point of contact for the customer throughout the construction or future advance phase. Before joining Live Oak Bank, Megan worked for Crescent State Bank as a Community Banker where she originated and closed consumer and commercial loans. She was previously in Loan Operations with Port City Capital Bank where she was responsible for preparing loans for closing then servicing and managing those loans. Thanks to a Coast Guard family Megan has enjoyed living all over the South and made her way to Wilmington in 1992 to attend the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Being a voracious reader, outside of work you would likely find Megan buried in a book, recommending a book or reading a book to her young daughter. She also enjoys volunteering with the local Hospice and is an active board member of the Affordable Housing Coalition of Southeastern North Carolina.

Pullen Daniel – Director of the Business Advisory Group
Pullen Daniel serves as Director of the Business Advisory Group for Live Oak Bank. In this role, he is responsible for managing the Bank's existing loan portfolio. Prior to Live Oak, Pullen worked for Alliance Residential Company, a Phoenix based apartment owner / developer / operator, where he was responsible for sourcing new business in the Southeastern U.S. on behalf of the firm's institutional financial partners. Pullen graduated from Washington and Lee University with a B.A. in History, and earned an MBA from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill with a concentration in Real Estate.

Outside of Live Oak Bank, Pullen enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, as well as hunting and fishing.

Neil L. Underwood - President & COO
Mr. Underwood is currently President & COO at Live Oak Bank and serves in a leadership capacity, focusing on sales, marketing, servicing and information technology. Prior to Live Oak, Underwood served as a Senior Vice President and General Manager of S1 Corporation, where he was responsible for S1 Enterprise's Retail division. S1, publically traded, builds and deploys applications including online banking, payments and mobile solutions to over 3,000 financial institutions worldwide. Before S1, Mr. Underwood played a key role in launching the Americas division of Brokat Technologies, a $200mm financial services software supplier based in Stuttgart, Germany. Acting as Chief Operating Officer, he was responsible for Retail and Wholesale Banking solutions for US, Canada and Latin America. Mr. Underwood came to Brokat as a principal of Transaction Software, which was acquired in May of 1999.

A native of Miami, FL, Underwood holds a Bachelors Degree of Science in Industrial Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He currently resides in Atlanta, with his wife Linda and their two sons, Pierce and Grant.

Erin Anton - Relationship Manager
Erin Anton serves as a Relationship Manager for Live Oak Bank and is responsible for providing financial analyses and operational support within the servicing division. She is also responsible for determining financial trends within the Bank's existing customer base. Erin received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with concentrations in both International Business and Marketing and a minor in Spanish

Outside of Live Oak Bank, Erin enjoys walking on the beach, cooking, running and spending time with her family.
