Live Oak Bank makes a contribution towards the Dental Trade Alliance Foundation

November 27, 2012 – Wilmington, NC – In an effort to continue to express its commitment to the dental community, Live Oak Bank has donated to the Dental Trade Alliance Foundation (DTAF). The mission of the DTAF is to improve access to and the productivity of the oral healthcare system. This can be accomplished by identifying, nurturing and leveraging specific projects that show promise in improving the healthcare system. The DTAF grants funding for innovative projects to improve access to oral healthcare, affords dental students who illustrate a strong commitment to community service scholarship opportunities, and provides for the recently launched Partnership for Healthy Mouths, Healthy Lives national public awareness children’s oral health Ad Council campaign.

Live Oak Bank contributes to the National Children’s Oral Health Foundation

August 2, 2012 – Wilmington, NC – Live Oak Bank has generously donated $1,000 to National Children’s Oral Health Foundation: America’s ToothFairy (NCOHF), a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating children’s preventable suffering from pediatric dental disease, also known as severe tooth decay. Supporting the delivery of oral health education and care beginning at the prenatal level, NCOHF: America’s ToothFairy has reached millions of children in need through its national non-profit clinical network and volunteer professional and student community service programs.

Live Oak Bank Helps Fund a Dental Expedition to Thailand

December 13, 2011 – Wilmington, NC – This December, David Sperow, his wife, Marty, and a physician assistant/former Army Medic will forgo the usual holiday festivities with family and friends and will travel 8,800 miles to two separate regions of Thailand. Sperow, a practicing dentist for 16 years, has been making volunteer trips to underprivileged areas around the world since 1993. “When I was a second year dental student, I was asked to join a dental team on an international trip that exposed me to the tremendous need and suffering in the third world. I couldn’t get those images out of my head and knew I had to continue my volunteer efforts to help those in need,” expressed Sperow.

While in Thailand, the volunteers will perform dental work on children at the Safe Haven and Mae Ka Hta Orphanages. Safe Haven, located in Tak Province, is run by five volunteers. All five women are *Karen widows whose husbands were murdered [...]

Live Oak Bank Makes a Charitable Contribution to Operation Smile

July 12, 2011 – Wilmington, NC – Founded in 1982, Operation Smile is an international medical humanitarian organization that provides reconstructive surgery for children and young adults born with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities. “Most people do not realize that cleft lips and palates are the fourth largest birth defect with an estimated 200,000 children born with the abnormality each year,” stated Beth Marshall, Founder of Operation Smile Carolinas. “Thousands of children are left untreated each year, so we appreciate the financial support we received from Live Oak Bank. Live Oak Bank Sponsors the 2011 Miss North Carolina International

June 8, 2011- Wilmington, NC – Brittney Clark is more than a just another pretty face; she has dedicated herself to preserving them. Clark, also the current Miss North Carolina International is a full-time dental hygiene student at AB-Tech. Outside of class, she acts as the Mission Children’s Hospital Tooth Bus Spokesperson, the Goodwill Ambassador for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry “Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children” Program and works part time at the Great Beginnings Pediatrics dental office.

In an effort to promote her platform, Brittney attended the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry in New York City over Memorial Day weekend. “I knew that it would be a great opportunity to find supporters to assist me in educating our youth about the importance of good oral health,” said Brittney. “Live Oak Bank reached out to me and wanted to become a sponsor. I was thrilled that they were willing to help finance my cause.”
