Thursday, May 30, 2013 – Wilmington, N.C. – Since 2011, Live Oak Bank has been a supporter of the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®), sponsoring the organization’s annual Blessing of the Animals event in New York City. This year, the bank is contributing to the ASPCA’s Animal Relocation and Transport Initiative that moves animals from overpopulated shelters to destination shelters where they have a significantly greater chance of being adopted. The first transport funded by Live Oak Bank took place yesterday, with over 70 dogs transported from Calcasieu Parish Animal Services in Lake Charles, La. to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay and the Humane Society of Sarasota County in Florida. The dogs were transported safely and humanely in a custom made animal transport trailer provided by Loving Friends Transports based in Clearwater, Fla.
“We are thankful for Live Oak Bank’s continued support for animals in need and commend their generous donation to the ASPCA’s Animal Relocation and Transport Initiative,” said Sandy Monterose, senior director of community outreach for the ASPCA. “Live Oak Bank’s contribution will allow the ASPCA to help even more animals through this groundbreaking program.”
“The bank’s relationship with the ASPCA has been one that we hope lasts well into the future,” expressed Travis York, general manager for Live Oak Bank. “The ASPCA has instituted valuable programs for helping animals in need nationwide. We are honored to support this important program that will help place homeless animals with loving families.”
