Under the general direction of the CTO and executive leadership, the Director of IT is responsible for leading the corporate strategy for Live Oak’s IT infrastructure operations. This role will manage and lead a flexible and adaptable high-performance cloud-first IT organization. This includes driving execution of technology initiatives, evaluating current technology systems, and driving the organization’s infrastructure aligned to business strategy, playing a key role in enabling the Bank’s competitiveness and ensuring growth. This position will be responsible for leading the corporate IT function, maintaining IT general computer controls, and relevant IT policies and procedures. This role will manage corporate IT HelpDesk, Server & Data Center Operations, and Network Operations.




Strategic Direction Setting

·         Lead mission-critical IT SaaS business applications and supporting IT operations teams

·         Evolve IT strategy across the bank, focused on delivery of core IT applications and operations

·         Work with stakeholders to continually optimize IT governance and decision-making processes as the business context and technology landscape changes, ensuring alignment with relevant IT compliance

·         Leads IT Steering Committee and develops IT Strategic Plans

·         Directs IT steering and governance committees to include executive management communications, Board reporting for matters relating to IT

·         Support the continued rapid growth of the organization by establishing and leading IT strategy that takes advantage of emerging technologies, collaborating with leadership throughout the organization to embed digital opportunities in the business’ cloud-first strategy


Service and Product Delivery

·         Oversees 24/7 data center, network, and security operations for production/service-based delivery

·         Leads the implementation of industry standard best practices and data center methodologies

·         Leads formal Change and Problem Management for the organization

·         Oversees Helpdesk function for support production services in a high compliance-driven environment

·         Collaborates with Live Oak Development and Products organization to consult on and implement technology in accordance with strategic products development

·         Collaborates with business leaders to design and implement technology that maximizes return from technology investments


Staff and Leadership Development

·         Develops the next generation of IT leaders who can build strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to move the Bank toward digitally enabled growth

·         Encourages smart risks, lessons learned from sub optimal results, and creates a climate of openness to new ways of working, risk and uncertainty

·         Contributes to Bank level goals for talent development, diversity and inclusion


Functional Management

·         Responsible for IT Governance which includes day to day resource allocation and personnel management

·         Ensure the seamless introduction and delivery of new technologies and processes to the environment while maintaining the confidentiality, availability and integrity of information

·         Promote transparent financial and business practices and routine adherence to legal, regulatory and security requirements

·         Ensure continuous delivery of services through oversight of Service Level Agreements (SLA) with customers and monitoring of IT system performance, reporting to various committees

·         Oversee and maintain the dissemination of IT policies, procedures and standards that support the long-term IT strategy, support the business, and manage risk effectively (i.e., implementation, IT project management, change management, build standards, etc…)

·         Ensures that all information systems are functionally correct and aligned to Bank policy by conducting IT reviews, audits, and incident investigation

·         Represent Live Oak Bank at conferences, in publications, and at technology events




·         Has responsibility for following regulatory requirements including those pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Customer Identification Program (CIP), and OFAC to assist in the identification, detection and determent of money laundering or other unlawful activities

·         Has responsibility to follow and implement IT best practices as outlined by the Federal Financial Institution Examination Council (FFIEC) through its IT Examination Handbook booklets specifically as it pertains to information technology

·          Performs other duties as required

·         Thorough knowledge of relevant laws, guidance and policies applicable to the financial industry

·         Thorough knowledge of the various industry and government strategies and standards including Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology (COBIT), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), US National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) and others where applicable.

·         Knowledge of business continuity planning, auditing and risk management.

·         Excellent Project Management, written and oral communication skills




·         Batchelors degree required.  Advanced degree and/or industry certifications preferred




·         10+ years of increasing responsiblities in IT Infrastructure Management and Data Center operations

·         Hands-on experience managing or overseeing the management of mid to large-scale information technology projects, including complex cross-functional and cross-organizational projects

·         Strong experience with designing and administering cloud-based environments, (i.e., AWS, Office365, Azure, Google, etc…)

·         Experience managing and implementing Cloud architectures in a DevOps/Agile methodology

·         Expert experience in general IT, TCP/IP networking, server and network systems, firewalls, virtual private networks, access controls, Microsoft Active Directory, and IT technology solution deployment strategies

·         Demonstrated record of successfully leading complex cloud-based IT organizations through technology changes and alignment with highly compliant environments

·         Strong track record of developing and implementing cloud technology strategies

·         Working knowledge and experience in the policy and regulatory environment, specifically the financial industry and banking

·         Experience developing and implementing strategic plans.

·         Experience recommending new technology and processes that will improve customer service, reduce costs and/or provide a competitive advantage

·         Strong experience designing and architecting highly available systems
